With the new dress of faux layering, this shift dress has officially made the list of my best dresses in 2018. Not just because it is named after me (okay maybe a little) but are you guys seeing how gorgeous it is?
This is my second piece from Nigerian fashion brand DassyClassy Couture. Just like the statement pants I featured here, this shift dress is another outstanding perfectly thought-out piece. Their pieces and designs are brilliant. They look simple at first then the uniqueness hits the fashionista in you and you can’t wait to style them.
Another thing I like is the ease with which you can style their pieces. This shift dress, definitely does not need any extra spice because the dress is as spice-filled as they come. You just need to pair with unique accessories enough to elevate the look. I love how mature it makes me look. Although, I can still always dress it up in a fun & playful way with mules or sneakers.
For this look, I simply picked a pair of nude shoes mostly because I wanted to keep it neutral. Peach or pink shoes would also pop on this particular print, depending on your mood. A black buckle detail mini bag because I love my cute bags and statement sunglasses that I never get to wear.
The awesome people at DassyClassy Couture named this the WUMI DRESS and I’m so proud because it is beautiful! It is available in the following colors: Purple, Cream, White, Yellow and Navy Blue with different bright prints. It costs N7,000 (Seven Thousand Naira) and I’m just dying to get the purple because that’s my fave!
This dress can be worn to work, church, dinner, weekend hangout etc. it is a really classy a shift dress with extra attitude and sauce. You should totally get one for these two very important reasons: This is the best dress you would own in a while, the fabric is perfect, not too thick or thin and of high quality. Secondly, well, it is named after your girl so why won’t you? LOL.
DassyClassy Couture makes the WUMI DRESS from a UK Size 4-20 so regardless of your size, you can get this piece. Here are some tips on styling a structured shift dress regardless of your size.
TIPS ON STYLING A SHIFT DRESS
Play with prints
Depending on how Afrocentric you are, you can go with an Ankara headwrap in a different but complementing print. Tie it as a turban and you are good to go.
Use a belt
You can accentuate your waist with a plain belt. It gives the illusion of a tiny waist then the dress flares out along the hips.
Mind the length & quality
While there are various lengths for shift dresses, it is always better to keep your shift dress well-tailored and short. This WUMI DRESS is a perfect blend of that. It’s not too short and it sits very well on the body without looking cheap and slouchy.
Have fun with it
That’s the essence of a shift dress. Comfort and fun. So either you pick a pair of heels or flats, make sure you are comfortable and can have fun in it.
While I’m going to stalk their page drooling over other colors, I hope you are also heading there to get your slay on like me.
