Fashion week street style & its brouhaha is over so back to regular programming. I apologize for being MIA, that’s what happens when you think you are superhuman. Although, the past few months moved in a blur, one thing I kept up with though, is Fashion Season in Lagos.
LAGOS FASHION WEEK STREET STYLE
I wasn’t too keen on attending LFW this year because I feel the don’t rate bloggers/micro-creatives enough. Apart from those who get sponsored by brands, earning them front row seats, the rest are relegated to the 5th row and beyond. That is if you even manage to get a press pass. However, the fashion week street style & my favorite designers motivated me to attend the last day.
Adire Lounge sent me a few fabrics some months back (Remember them from my first Fashion Week?). So I teamed up with the super cool NOWO brand to make them for my fashion week street style looks. We finalized on a utility-like pants with little drama (the tie detail). Paired the pants with a white bodysuit and went a little edgy with a beam bag and boots. It balanced out the look for me and was still very simple. For my hair, I reached out to a couple of hair brands but none were forthcoming so I made colored Bantu knots as a last minute resort. Guess the star of the outfit? The blue Bantu knots! It even made it to CNN Africa guys. I was very shocked and grateful.
I was delighted to see some of my favorite designers on the runway like Mai Atafo (which has now changed to ATAFO) & Style Temple. Although I would have loved to see something a little different from her this time.
GTB FASHION WEEKEND
This was exciting for me because I was featured in their fashion content for street style. We made a video and the photos made it to the official fashion weekend magazine. Getting featured alongside other amazing creatives was a good highlight.
Bukky and I planned for both days this year. Apart from some mistakes we made, which we rectified on the second day & the crazy Lagos traffic, we had a wonderful experience. We were hosted by Island Apartments for the duration of the fashion weekend which made logistics easier. Check them out!
Day 1– Daltimore & I collaborated for Day 1 fashion week street style. I saw what he had in mind and screamed when I saw leather. Leather, in this unpredictable Lagos weather? No Fam. He assured me that it wouldn’t be the one that will make me sweat like a Christmas goat so I calmed down. He made a harness just in case the top did not fit and that was a good idea as it did not fit. When I tried the white t-shirt with the harness & skirt, I felt like a clown.
In theory, it was fashion week street style appropriate but in reality, I was discouraged. My pink hair did not come out as I’d hoped, the skirt was too wide and my boobs looked too big. I take the blame because I couldn’t go for fittings. Thankfully, I found a tailor to help me make little adjustments then prayed that after doing my makeup, magic will happen. It did happen, just look at the pictures. My accessories put a perfect finish to the outfit and I will never undermine the importance of great accessories again.

Day 2– One of the Adire fabrics also & the softest I’ve seen so far. After thinking hard about a style, I saw one picture from London Fashion Week and had to recreate the look with my own twist. So the people at NOWO brand worked their magic on this button down maxi dress. We made it with bishop collar (as opposed to the original turtle neck). The fabric is so colorful with the paint splash print & it came out really good. Paired with denim pants, sneakers and a fringe bag, it was a really easy outfit to pull off for Day 2.

2019 Fashion Season in Lagos was great. Shout out to the photographers, media outlets & you all for the love on my social media. If I find myself in this country during Fashion Season next year, then I hope to do the fashion week street style bigger and better. Just remember that it’s always fashion week on this blog, so keep up!
Which one of my outfits is your favorite? Did you attend any of the Fashion Week? How was it for you?
