Lovers of minimalist fashion that like a little more details on their outfits would love this look. It’s basically an easy-to-wear corporate outfit that can be paired with a lot of pieces & styled separately.

Naya Rose makes some of the best pieces I’ve seen from Nigerian brands. They add little details that make their pieces distinctive like the color block dress I wore here. I collaborated with them for Fashion Week last year and it was a successful one seeing as Chimamanda Adichie got the exact same outfit I wore from them recently. The owner of the brand and I have become fast friends and she really is one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met.

Back to The Outfit

This pleat details in this outfit is the main appeal. Its simple yet outstanding because it ends up not just being a plain top and black skirt. A classic combination that works well when there are other things involved in the mix. With the Bree skirt & Dorin top, you won’t be looking like you’re wearing your choir uniform out LOL. The organza top might get a bit hot as we know the cold weather doesn’t last long in Nigeria especially Lagos. It can be worn with a cute bralette if you’re styling it for a party, I styled mine with a camisole because it’s a work outfit.

I particularly like that the skirt is short, it adds the cute effect to the outfit. The most fascinating detail is the ‘adire’ fabric used to make the pleats on the skirt. Adire is an indigo-dyed cloth made by Yoruba people in the south-western part of Nigeria. With this, you can actually wear it out to other places apart from work. Personally, I have styled the skirt in two other ways. I will share the second one soon. In the third look, I paired the skirt with a black bodysuit and silver loafers.

In this look though, I chose to go with equally minimal accessories; black sandals, my silver circle bag and a dash of color with my pink earrings.

Minimalist Approach to Fashion

Unlike what first came to mind when I started hearing of minimalist fashion, it is actually not boring. It is more intentional than the normal approach. From my observation, minimalist fashionistas go for particular color palettes not because they don’t want to explore but because it suits their lifestyle. An advantage is that you would mostly find classic pieces in their wardrobes. Pieces that will last a while and would not lose its appeal no matter how many times it’s worn. My babe Grace of Epiphany29 does minimalist fashion so well and she infuses color too so it’s not just about black and white. Another person that does minimalist fashion so well is Ijenna of Miralabelle.

I’m not a minimalist, I’m sure that’s very obvious but the ability to switch it up from time to time is essential in fashion styling.
