Hi Loves, I got this Ankara jumpsuit and it embodies everything I love about Afrocentric fashion. Afrocentric fashion has always been a favorite of mine and if you have followed this blog for some years, you would see how often I infuse African prints into my outfits.
I have been reading up on Afrocentric fashion and it has been very enlightening. Thought to share some of the things I found out with you. Firstly, the definition- AFROCENTRICISM as defined by Maulana Karenga, is “a quality of thought that is rooted in the cultural image and human interest of African people”. From my understanding, AFROCENTRIC FASHION will then mean “style that is rooted in the cultural image and interest of Africa”. I hope that makes sense because it sounded better in my head.
Another thing is, Afrocentrism is a very “black” mindset. People who are afrocentrists regard all black people as Africans and believe their views should be a reflection of the traditional African values. Basically, wearing African fashion is a way to show support for Afrocentrism. Did you guys know this?
Anyway, I think supporting African fashion is always a good thing. There is creativity all around us and talent being born out the sheer acceptability of African prints and style. I surf on my explore page sometimes and come across some beautiful designs made from “Ankara, Adire, Aso-oke” and others. These styles are simply amazing and very alluring. Just like this gorgeous utility ankara jumpsuit I got last year from SGTC Clothing.
I would have never thought this design of Ankara jumpsuit would suit me. The drama, I love but I was a bit skeptical about the utility structure and the oversize fit. All my doubts flew out the moment I tried it on. This ankara jumpsuit has a collar and detachable belt that can be tied any way you want. It is comfortable, vibrant and simply beautiful. SGTC does mixed prints like no one else, I’m always impressed and the fabric quality is superb. I have quite a number of clothes from SGTC like this culottes two piece, top, this high waist pants and the skirt I released in collaboration with them. It is quite obvious that they are one of my favorite brands.
For this look, I paired the Ankara jumpsuit with nude perspex mules and box bag as it’s the star of the entire look. It has enough drama to steal the show so neutrals for everything including my makeup. Oh did I mention that this Ankara jumpsuit has pockets? No? My bad! Anything cute that has pockets has me sold! I really can’t explain the feeling. Am I alone in this?
So guys, this mixed print utility jumpsuit sells for N15,000 on SGTC Clothing and they ship worldwide. They also have stockists in major cities around the world so you don’t have an excuse to not shop this one. Tell them Wumi sent you!
