Hi everyone, how is the harmattan at your end? It is pretty much unpredictable here as I am just feeling both hot and cold at the same time.
As much as I enjoy bringing out my sweaters and cold-season outfits, the weather can be unpleasant to the health and skin so this is the time to take extra care of our body especially the more exposed parts. Here are some tips that can be useful during this period.

*Keep your skin moisturized. This applies to the guys too, I know some of you do not even bother to apply body cream on a normal day but this is not the normal period. We do not want to see your white and dry skin especially when you look well dressed LOL. It is advisable to use oily body lotions instead of the normal ones. I have started using my Pears baby oil that I abandoned for a while now, It spreads well so you do not need to rub much (don’t be looking like you used groudnut oil). You can also add a few drops of oil to your bathing water or leave your body a bit damp before applying the body cream.

*Try to avoid unnecessary exposure of the skin to dry air and also protect your hair from dryness. If you are a naturalista like me, this would probably be the time to put your hair in protective hairstyles e.g Cornrows or Twisting and opt for a wig or if you want it out, you have to constantly moisturize it, My own hair is out right now and I moisturize it regularly with Dark N Lovely moisturizer and Hair butter mixed with water to avoid dryness. You should stay away from hair gel and strong holding sprays too. Also, Scarves and hats are very important for your hair this season. While they protect your hair, they are also fashionable so you can rock them with your outfits stylishly.

*It is generally advised to avoid alcohol based facial cleansers this period instead opt for mild cleansers, I think those of you that use baby wipes are safe. Also always moisturize your face after cleansing.

*Lip balm and Gloss should be your best friends this season. One of the most attractive things during Harmattan is the look of cracked and scaly lips so it is better to apply lip gloss with your make-up or you can apply it on top of your lipstick if you are not a fan of coloured lip gloss. Guys please you are very included in this, apply lip balm before leaving the house and apply constantly during the day, it helps keep it moisturized.

*Drink lots of water to prevent dehydration. I have to force myself with this one because I do not drink much water normally but as I cannot afford to break down in the middle of the day, there is no running away from it

These are some of the basic tips you would need to combat this weather, you can check Grace’s post for some more specific tips on what she uses this period.

Enjoy your week.

  1. I never use any form of body cream whatsoever, but this time, I went and got me some Pears Baby Lotion and Cussons Baby Oil. Problem now is that I keep forgetting to apply any of them before leaving the house because I’m not used to it.

I need to find way to set a cream reminder.
